SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association here on Tuesday strongly condemned the remark made by right-wing author and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Professor Anand Ranganathan, advocating for an Israel-like solution (genocide) in Kashmir. The Association said, "It is appalling how easily and casually a particular set of people can propagate hate and bigotry under the guise of nationalism, with no repercussions."

In a statement, the National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said, "Anand Ranganathan's genocidal call for an Israel-like approach in Kashmir is absolutely pathetic and shameful. Opportunists like Anand won’t fight in any war, and won’t leave their cushy homes, but they advocate for wars, violence, and destruction as solutions. It is horrific that someone can be so hateful and capable of distorting the truth. Such statements make it impossible to find peace; they are divisive and dangerous."

"He calls for the killing and massacre of people and children, similar to what Israel is doing in Gaza, to happen in Kashmir. This is a terrorist mindset. When you are bred and soaked in hate ideology, you lose sight of humanity. Ranganathan has lost his mind, and his words subjectively defend the mass killings by Israel in Gaza. Without even understanding Kashmir, he is making absurd arguments for the same," he said.

Khuehami emphasized, "Spreading hate and calling for violence against any community is deeply reprehensible. It is both dangerous and inhumane. He is advocating for the systematic annihilation of Kashmiris. Doesn't this sort of conduct attract penal provisions for inciting hatred against minorities?"

The Association demanded that an FIR should be lodged against him for his genocidal call. "Under the guise of nationalism, he is spreading hatred and venom. People like him are a blot on society, spreading hate and division. They are the worst enemy within! Asking the Indian state to do an Israel in Kashmir is a call for genocide. He wants us (Kashmiris) to be bullied, bulldozed, malnourished, counted among the most amputated children population, women to be raped, land to be grabbed, and ethnic cleansing. Equating Israel's actions in Gaza with a solution for Kashmir is advocating for violence and displacement, not peace. This rhetoric promotes genocide and suffering."

The Association stated, "Forces that have been romancing and toying with hateful narratives and rhetoric solely for polarizing will sink this country. People like Anand want Kashmir without Kashmiris. His statement is not just inflammatory but poses a real threat to peace and harmony in our society. Advocating for genocide is a criminal act, and it must be treated as such under Indian law."

The Association firmly denounced Anand Ranganathan's statements and demanded immediate legal action against him. Khuehami said, "We hope the sane people of India will come out against this genocidal appeal against Kashmiris on a national news platform. People of India must unite against such toxic and divisive rhetoric and ensure that our society remains peaceful, inclusive, and just for all its members."

"People of the country must reject such dangerous calls and work towards true justice and reconciliation. No one should defend the indefensible. We urge the Government of India, people across party lines, and civil society to take strong note of such individuals and their hateful ideology. Such genocidal rhetoric should be condemned nationwide, and measures should be taken to prevent its spread. Your collective silence in the face of such hatred makes us complicit. We must stand together to protect the values of peace, unity, and diversity that our nation upholds," it added.

SRINAGAR — The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has raised concerns regarding the absence of Sikh representation in autonomous bodies such as the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

In a press release issued today, the APSCC called upon Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to appoint honest and upright Sikh officers to these crucial positions.

Jagmohan Singh Raina, Chairman of APSCC, emphasized the need for inclusion, stating that there are numerous qualified Sikh officers capable of serving on the JKPSC and JKSSB. Raina expressed disappointment over what he described as ongoing discrimination against the Sikh community, citing their exclusion from key decision-making bodies as evidence.

"For decades, Sikhs in Jammu & Kashmir have faced systemic discrimination in all aspects of life. Previous administrations have neglected the Sikh community, and unfortunately, the current situation remains unchanged," Raina remarked.

Raina urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to prioritize Sikh representation in Jammu & Kashmir's autonomous bodies, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusivity. He also highlighted the absence of any specific employment initiatives tailored to the Sikh community in the union territory.

SRINAGAR Expressing concern over the turmoil in Poonch, the Jammu Muslim Front stressed the need for the army to establish rapport with vulnerable communities affected by violence.

Shuja Zaffar, Chairman of the Jammu Muslim Front, conveyed distress over the tragic loss of both army personnel and civilians in Poonch. In a statement to The Kashmir Pulse, Zaffar emphasized the imperative for the army to cultivate a community-oriented environment and take action against those targeting innocent civilians.

BIJBEHARA — PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that after the abrogation of Article 370, BJP will now abrogate the Constitution of India and they are going to replace the tricolour with a saffron flag.

Speaking on the death anniversary of her father and the former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed at Daro Shikoh Bagh in Bijbehara, she, as per the news agency KNO, said that BJP which abrogated the Constitution of J&K will abrogate the Constitution of India and those who snatched our flag will replace the flag of India with ‘Bagwa’ flag.

She recalled that during her chief ministership, she withdrew FIRs against 12000 youth, announced a ceasefire for one month, and dropped two BJP ministers for Kathua rape and murder case. "But currently, arrested youth are being shifted to outside jails and their families aren't in a position to meet them."

“Youth are being arrested, land is being snatched and businessmen are being raided just because they are Kashmiri. BJP has started a war against Kashmiris on the pretext of land acquisition. This action is not against corrupt or wrong people but is against a common Kashmiri,” Mehbooba added.

She said that her party will take every step to take people out of this situation. She said that the late Mufti Mohammad Syed believed in the idea of secular India and was a staunch supporter of Gandhi's India.

“BJP has bulldozed the Constitution of India while the court and media aren't being allowed to work freely. There was a time when the Court even gave judgement against Prime Minister Indra Gandhi and now Chief Justice of India says Courts are scared of giving clean chit to innocents,” she said.

"There was a time when the media was highlighting everything, be it communal riots or other issues but today it has forgotten its duty," Mehbooba added.

SRINAGAR — Days after Rubaiya Sayeed, sister of Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, identified Yasin Malik as her abductor in 1989, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday said that Malik deserves a fair trial.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party function here, Lone said that Malik deserves a fair trial. “He should be given a fair trial. Justice cannot be a one-sided affair,” he told reporters, as per news agency KNO.

To a question about the identification of Malik and three others by Rubaiya Sayeed in the special CBI Court Jammu, Lone said it is their decision, “but those getting people identified and indicted don’t have the right to talk about reconciliation and dialogue”.

“They have every right to identify and indict those involved. But those identifying and indicting people have no moral right to talk about reconciliation and dialogue. Priyanka Gandhi even forgave the killers of her own father,” Lone said.

After Rubaiya Sayeed identified Malik and three others as her abductors, Mehbooba Mufti said she did her duty as per law.

Lone was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organized by Peoples Conference to welcome former deputy director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr Bashir Chalkoo from Uri into the party fold.

SRINAGAR — The National Conference on Friday broke its silence on 'The Kashmir Files', saying while the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits was a "stain on Kashmiriyat", the movie was far from the truth as the film-makers have ignored the sacrifices of the Muslims and Sikhs who had also suffered from militancy.

Vice President of the party and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said that if 'The Kashmir Files' was a commercial movie, no one has an issue, but if the film-makers claim that it is based on reality, then the facts are the other way round.

"When the unfortunate incident of Kashmiri Pandit migration took place, Farooq Abdullah was not the chief minister. Jagmohan was the Governor. It was V P Singh's government at the Centre which was supported by the BJP from outside," Abdullah told reporters in Damhal Hanji Pora area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir.

Abdullah wondered why this fact was kept away from the movie. "Don't manipulate the truth. It's not the right thing. If Kashmiri Pandits have fallen victims to terrorism, we have utmost regret about that, but let us not forget the sacrifices of Muslims and Sikhs who were also targeted by the same gun," he said.

Abdullah said that some of those from the majority community were yet to return. "Today, there is a need to create an atmosphere where we could bring back all those who had left their homes and not create a communal divide," he said.

The former chief minister said an atmosphere would be created for the return of Kashmiri Pandits. "But I do not think that those people who have made this movie, want them (Kashmiri Pandits) to return. Through this picture, they want Pandits to remain outside always," he said.

Abdullah later took to Twitter and said, "The pain and suffering of 1990 and after can not be undone. The way Kashmiri Pandits had their sense of security snatched from them and had to leave the valley is a stain on our culture of Kashmiriyat. We have to find ways to heal divides and not add to them."

https://twitter.com/OmarAbdullah/status/1504789398185201665

While replying to one of the tweets by a Kashmiri Pandit about the reasons for a long silence, Abdullah reminded him saying "…I've been saying it for years now, both as CM and out of office. Perhaps you weren't paying attention to what I was saying then. I've been a long time advocate of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to look in all that happened from 1990 onwards."

Earlier, in his address, Abdullah said attempts were being made to defame a community across the world. "A common Kashmiri is not happy with what happened 32 years ago, that people were made to leave the Valley. Today, an impression is being created that all Kashmiris are communal, that all Kashmiris do not bear the people from other religions. What will be achieved by this? Will it make the road easier for their return?" he asked.

"I am afraid that the hatred which is being created against Kashmiri Muslims today, God forbid, our children studying outside the state, should not bear its brunt," he said.

During his tenure as the chief minister, Abdullah had advocated setting up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to go into the events unfolding since the onset of militancy.

Farooq Abdullah
Jammu: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said neither India could take back Pak-occupied-Kashmir nor Pakistan has the power to take this part of Kashmir by going to war, so the solution to the problem lies in dialogue between the two countries.
"We cannot take what is with them with war...What is with them neither can we take it nor they have the power to take this Kashmir from us, so what other way is left?" Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function on Sunday.
He said people who call him "anti-national" and making "hue and cry" over his recent statement on PoK are those who once appreciated him for "defending the nation in the United Nations" and if they have guts, (they should) go and fight on the borders.
"They will keep on saying Farooq Abdullah as anti-national, it is upto them what they call, when I defended my nation in the United Nations that time was I not anti- national, even (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee lauded me," he said.
Stressing for resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan, the National Conference chief said resident of Jammu and Kashmir on both sides of the divided line (Line of Control) were suffering due to the cross-border firing.
"They should come and see the problems of the people living on the borders. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are dying. On both sides, it is our people who are dying. What is the solution? There is no solution except dialogue," he said.
Senior Abdullah also took a swipe on India's failure to bring back Masoor Azhar or Dawood Ibrahim, saying we could not bring Masood Azhar or the Don who lives in Karachi what resolutions are you talking of.
Earlier, Abdullah paid tributes to veteran leader Girdhari Lal Dogra and described him as a legendary politician who worked tirelessly for uplift of poor and progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Dogra Sahib has left an indelible mark of public service and he continues to be remembered as a towering leader for his tremendous connect with the masses," he said while offering tributes to Dogra on his 29th death anniversary.
He said Dogra was among the few leaders of the state whose contribution towards its development is remembered even now.
"As a true democrat, he had earned a niche for himself and endeared so much among the people that he never lost any election," the former Chief Minister said.
"Such people are rare, who keep aside politics and treat everyone equal, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or regional affiliation," the NC President said, adding that he will always remain an inspiration for younger generation of political activists, who really want to serve the people and the state by giving their best.
He said Dogra had unflinching faith in secularism and all his life he worked for strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood between various segments of society. (PTI)

Shabir Shah
Srinagar: Terming the statement of VK Singh that Hurriyat leaders are Indian citizens as “illogical”, the chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Monday said neither the people of Jammu Kashmir nor the resistance leaders are Indian citizens.
Shah is currently admitted in SKIMS Soura after he suffered a minor cardiac arrest on Sunday.
In a statement issued to KNS, he said VK Singh’s remarks are misleading and suggested him to go through the history.
“The statement is far from reality and is a deliberate attempt to mislead masses,” he said.
“In all the dialogues between India and Pakistan, it has become clear that besides other mutual issues, the Kashmir has been a core issue between the two nations. The same issue triggered three wars between the neighbouring nations and continues to be reason for border skirmishes,” he said.
Shah said the people of the disputed state of Jammu Kashmir are yet to decide their political future. “So, the forged definition regarding the citizenship of Kashmiris put forth by VK Singh is unacceptable for the people of J&K,” he said.
DFP chairman said there are three parties to the Kashmir dispute in which India is a usurper. “VK Singh must know that Kashmir is not Delhi or UP but has its own identity and has never been part of India. He must answer what is the relevance of Lahore or Shimla agreements before the 18 resolutions that stand passed in the United Nations Security Council,” he said.
Shah said India by adopting a stubborn approach vis-à-vis Kashmir will yield nothing as people of Kashmir won’t compromise over the lakhs of sacrifices rendered for the freedom of their nation.
“Also, Indian state must bear in mind that the oppressive and suppressive measures can’t break the resolve of Kashmiris,” he said. (KNS)

Workers, labour class face injustice in JK: Tarigami
Srinagar: CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Sunday said that the workers and labour class in J&K have been at the receiving end, facing complete injustice and an ‘onslaught’ which could be only addressed by unifying the working class and proper implementation of labour laws.
Tarigami while addressing a rally held under the banner of CITU here said that daily wagers, need base workers and other daily rated workers are beaten for seeking their earned wages.
“Even, the maximum wages guaranteed under the labour laws are not paid to them. These earned wages are denied to them for months and years together,” he said.
He added that after exhausting every option to seek the release of their wages, they are forced to protest to press for their demand.
“It is shame for the government that a labour is forced to protest to seek the release of earned wages. He is beaten for seeking his right,” he added.
“Isolated efforts can’t be effective, be united and bold enough to safeguard the democratic rights of the workers and defeat the anti worker policies of successive governments” Tarigami said.
Tarigami said destitute engaged in government and private sector as ad-hoc, casual, seasonal, need based, contingency paid workers and contractuals are facing the brunt of ' brazen flouting' of the labour laws.
He said workers are neglected and their long pending demands are not met. The traditional artisans and weavers also reap little benefits of their hard toil and even were badly hit in the last floods are awaiting rehabilitation.
Commenting on the controversial SRO 105, Tarigami said there must be immediate revocation of this law that deprives livelihood to hundreds of labourers associated with quarrying and construction business.
“Drastic cuts on allocations by the central government in the welfare schemes like ICDS, Mid-day-meal, NHM with the motive of finally doing away with such pro-people schemes and programmes altogether has desperately disillusioned the human resource working tirelessly and being meagerly paid under these schemes,” he said.
He added that labour laws in the state are not in tune with the interests of workers in organized and unorganized sector and there was imminent need to amend and update these laws.
“Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services Act, 1996 to protect the rights of labourers working in construction projects has failed to benefit them. The Building and Other Construction Workers Act 1996 too has been a failure,” he said.
Tarigami lamented the government demanding a comprehensive employment policy in the state to guarantee much employment avenues under public and private sectors and harnessing the talented human resource.
Paying rich tributes to Zaldagar martyrs of 1865, Tarigami said that they laid the edifice of a struggle against the exploitation and atrocities on the artisans, a prominent section of working class.
General Secretary CITU and Member of Parliament, Tapen Sen in his address castigated the central government said that the social security benefits like pension, provident fund, health insurance etc. are hard won rights of the working class secured through decades of struggle.
Among others who addressed the rally included President of All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers and CITU Secretary, K Hemlata and Veteran Kisan leader Ghulam Nabi Malik. (KNS)

Srinagar: National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed shock and indignation at the harassment and mistreatment of MLA Homshalibugh Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi by J&K Police in Jammu on Monday.
Terming the incident as unacceptable and grave, Omar Abdullah sought immediate and strict action against the erring Police Officers.
“The MLA’s vehicle was stopped by the Police and he was subjected to harassment despite being identified as a legislator. This is a clear case of brazen contempt and disrespect being shown towards the Legislative Assembly and doesn’t bode well for the institutions of democracy in the State,” Omar Abdullah said in a party statement this evening.
The NC Working President said the State Government should focus on dispensing at least its basic duties rather than using the State machinery to further its retributive political agenda. “The priorities of our Chief Minister and the State Government are clear and evident and sadly it seems they would much rather focus their attention on illegitimately harassing legislators of the principal opposition party rather than deliver on their promises,” Omar Abdullah further said.
“While MLA Homshalibugh will file a privilege motion in the Legislative Assembly, the Speaker if not the Chief Minister herself should have taken suo moto cognizance and initiated an inquiry into this matter of grave and unpardonable impropriety. Since the Chief Minister holds the charge of the Home Ministry, she is also bound to take immediate and visible disciplinary action against the erring police officers pending a final resolution of the issue based on the follow-up to the privilege motion. Any laxity or complacence in taking the erring police officers to task would indicate patronage to such behaviour from the highest levels of the government,” the NC Working President added.

In her address, CM Mehbooba said, “We welcome the students, who come here from different part of the nation on the lines of atithi devo bhava. When these students come, they come as guests but they leave as our goodwill ambassadors,” said Mehbooba while addressing the students at the convocation ceremony of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Katra.
“I would request all to make them feel at home so that when they go back they talk about our hospitality and good behaviour and treat our children of the state, who are in lakhs in rest of the country in the same way. We need to behave in such a manner that this cultural mix prospers and the brotherhood flourishes,” she added.
“J&K is a mini India. People of all faiths stay here.”

Maqbool, Afzal victims of unfinished agenda of partition: Er Rasheed
Srinagar: While paying tributes to Mohammad Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat on their anniversaries AIP Supremo MLA Langate Er Rasheed has appealed world community to end bloodshed in J&K by finding political solution to the Kashmir dispute.
Addressing a series of public meetings in Handwara and Langate today, Er Rasheed said that Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru were not criminals but victims of unfinished agenda of partition of the sub-continent.
He said, “Let not only India but world community explain what they have achieved by hanging Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat. Hasn’t their ideology and desire to get Kashmir issue resolved gone deeper to the roots of people of J&K and India’s military might and financial packages have yielded nothing except pushing Kashmiris to further radicalization and alienation. Billions of Indians should feel their heads down and ashamed of the fact that why the state has proved so inhuman and brutal that it didn’t even handed over the dead bodies of these martyrs.
If Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat were terrorists, why doesn’t GoI act against hundreds of officers in uniform who are involved in heinous crimes from murders to forced disappearances?” He added, “Let GoI introspect what forced police to bury the bodies of four youth killed in Sonawari in the border area of Uri? Normally people should celebrate the deaths of militants but what makes Kashmiris to give them respect beyond imagination, is a question that Indian state should seriously find the answer.
It would be in India’s own interest to introspect its misdeeds and atrocities in J&K rather celebrating false victory every time.”

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdulla on Sunday during an event said that Kashmir is complete only when the Kashmiri pandits come back to the state.
Abdulla was recently even quoted as saying that the time has come for the Kashmiri Pandits living in various parts of the country to return to the Valley with dignity and honour. “I had maintained that they (Kashmiri Pandits) have to come back home. Nobody is going to call them and ask them to return… time has come when they must return home with honour and dignity and the people here are waiting for them,” Abdullah said here. “We discussed it during my tenure as Chief Minister in 1996 and at that time, we tried every method to bring the community back,” Abdulla added.
Twenty-six years after Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee the Valley, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah has put the blame on them for not returning to their homes. ”They have to realise that nobody is going to come with a begging bowl and say come and stay with us. They have to make the move,” Abdulla said.
While speaking at a book launch of first hand narratives relating to stories of persecution and struggle by several generations of Pandits evicted from the state and one who always wanted to return to the state and peacefully co-exist with their Muslim neighbours. Abdullah said that several Pandits who had made their homes in Delhi had come to see him when the J and K government asked them to return to the Valley.
On January 19, 1990, India witnessed the biggest even exodus of people since the partition. Around four to five lakh minority Hindus of Kashmir, Kashmiri Pandits, left their homes following threats and persecution by Muslim radicals and Islamic militants. The killings of Kashmiri Pandits which had begun in 1989 had a catastrophic effect with the state government failing to provide them with security. With no help from the government, approximately 100,000 of the total Kashmiri Pandit population of 140,000 left the valley. Kashmiri Pandits commemorate January 19 as Kashmiri Pandit Exodus Day, hoping to return home someday.

Srinagar: Emphasising upon the need for affirmative action for social up-liftment of 17 crore Muslim population of the country, Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,Wednesday said India’s largest minority see their future in secular India.
Referring to the Sachar Committee Report, he called for creating environment conducive for the development of Muslims, who have stood like a rock with India since 1947, when the country was divided on religious lines. The Chief Minister was addressing a large public meeting, here this afternoon.
He was flanked by the Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, MLCs, Zaffar Manhas, Khurshid Alam, Yasir Reshi, Saif-ud-din Bhat and Firdous Tak, besides senior PDP leaders Nizam-ud-din Bhat, Rafi Ahmad Mir and Peerzada Mansoor.
Describing India as a confluence of distinct cultures, the Chief Minister said if India has to realize its dream of becoming a world leader, it will have to take all people, including Muslims, along and deal with those with an iron hand who try to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the country. He said the Sachar Committee Report reflects the state of affairs of the Muslims in India, who lag behind, like Dalits and other weaker sections of the society, on all parameters of development.
Referring to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the Chief Minister said we need to win the hearts and minds of the Muslims, who also deserve sense of ownership of this great country.
The Chief Minister observed that the essence of democracy in India flows through its powerful people who have brought stalwarts, belonging to different schools of thought, including Indira Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Rajeev Gandhi, VP Singh, Deve Gowda and Atal Behari Vajpayee to power as country’s Prime Ministers.
Describing growth of democratic institutions in India as its real pillars of strength, Mufti Sayeed, said on the contrary, in the neighbouring country such institutions have failed to evolve. “Pakistan is going through a prolonged phase of instability and is fighting its own battle. In J&K, we created Hill Development Councils in Leh and Kargil, which is a real example of democratic decentralization of powers,” he added.
Referring to the turmoil in countries like Syria, Iraq and those in the Middle East, the Chief Minister drew the attention of the people towards looming crisis there, as people are fleeing their countries and taking refuge in Europe. “It pains me to see the great civilization of Arab nations being destroyed in such gruesome manner.
