Kulgam: The State Chief Information Commissioner G R Sufi today said that people must empower themselves by knowing and employing the RTI Act to enhance the transparency, and accountability in the public sector. He was addressing a special training workshop organised by J&K RTI Movement at Dak Bunglow Kulgam.
Encouraging the activists and participants to make use of what he termed as ‘peoples act,’ Mr. Sufi said that this act has strengthened the role of citizen and has made him the most powerful entity in a democratic setup. Adding that with the act the disadvantaged sections of the society have a strong tool in their hands to know what the authorities are doing.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, said that authorities should make concrete efforts to empower people living in any part of the state by making them aware and encourage them to seek information through this act.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, RTI Activists from various parts of the district, and other officers of the district attended the workshop which focussed on the role of RTI in society.
In the workshop that continued for the whole day, the participants were informed about the various facets of J&K RTI Act, its applications and limitations.
