SRINAGAR — With the political situation in Bangladesh showing signs of stabilisation, Kashmir's fruit industry has cautiously resumed its apple exports to the country, particularly the American Apple variety.

The development comes after weeks of uncertainty when unrest in Bangladesh had severely impacted trade, leading to concerns among Kashmiri fruit growers and dealers.

Speaking with the news agency KNO, Shahid Choudhary, a senior member of the fruit growers body in Kashmir said the resumption of apple exports to Bangladesh is a much-needed respite not only for him but for all the growers who work entire year to ensure a quality produce for foreign markets.

“It is a much-needed relief for both dealers and growers. The recent unrest in Bangladesh created uncertainty among all of us. We were unsure of any orders this year,” he said.

Choudhary said the fresh resumption of the apple export trade was a welcome development and has spread happiness among the growers and dealers.

Bashir Ahmad Bashir, the president of the apex fruit body representing Kashmir's fruit growers, said that in recent days, shipments of the American Apple varieties have started reaching Bangladeshi markets.

He, however, noted that while the export market has not yet fully recovered, there was optimism among growers. "We are hopeful that in the coming days, the volume of orders from Bangladeshi buyers will increase," Bashir said.

Notably, during the harvest season in Kashmir, several apple traders from Bangladesh camp in Kashmir to buy and meet the demand for Kashmiri apples in their homeland.

According to Choudhary, Bangladesh is an important market for varieties of apples from Kashmir, especially American Apples.

"We export over 70 percent American Apple variety produce to Bangladeshi markets," he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the Union finance ministry ordered the lifting of additional duties on apples, almonds, chickpeas and walnuts in September last year, the Kashmir apple industry is facing an unprecedented crisis and grappling with low demand due to the influx of foreign apples in the Indian markets.

Several mainstream politicians in the region have urged the government to reconsider the decision, saying it impacts the growers in Kashmir.

As apple revenue has been one of the key GDP contributors in J&K, fruit dealers have been urging the government for a long time to slash the export duty on apples, so that they can export the fruit to various countries.

Professional Services Automation, or PSA, refers to a suite of software designed to help manage and automate various business processes within service-oriented organizations. It is a centralized platform that integrates different operational segments, including project management, resource planning, and customer engagements. Doing so provides a unified view of all aspects of a business, allowing for greater control and management insight.

PSAs are particularly valuable to consultancies, IT service providers, law firms, and other businesses that operate on a project-by-project basis. They empower these operations with tools to handle complex tasks, from scheduling and resource management to billing and reporting. This results in a harmonized workflow that reduces the manual effort typically involved in project administration.

The core objective of PSA software is to increase operational efficiency and profitability. It achieves this by eliminating redundancies and streamlining processes, thus freeing up valuable time for professionals to focus on delivering exceptional service. Moreover, these systems often come with analytical capabilities, allowing companies to extract insightful data to inform strategic decisions.

Many organizations actively seek platforms that offer robust components of professional services automation as a testament to its importance. Adopting such systems is no longer a luxury but a necessity for staying competitive in an increasingly digital marketplace.

Businesses can align the right people with suitable projects by predicting project demands and mapping out resource skills and availability. This optimizes productivity and increases employee job satisfaction, ensuring a balanced workload.

The impact of PSA on business efficiency and client satisfaction

The accurate measure of the effectiveness of PSA lies in the tangible improvements it brings to business efficiency. Organizations implementing PSA observe a marked decrease in administrative overhead as the software automates and streamlines many manual processes. Analytics and reporting tools within PSA software also play a crucial role in strategic planning. With data-driven insights about performance, profitability, and client interactions, businesses can fine-tune their operations, making informed choices that propel them ahead of the competition. Such strategic agility is invaluable in today's ever-evolving service industry landscape.

Also, the company is building a platform to facilitate Quick commerce in J&K driven by ONDC demand.

The 4-year-old logistic company from J&K raised Rs 90 lakh in Season 2 of the reality show.

The company, according to the founders, has already raised a couple of rounds of investments from angel investors and high-net-worth individuals.

In December 2021, the company became the first startup from the Valley to raise $100,000 in Seed A funding round from angel investors.

Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani-led energy-to-retail conglomerate Reliance Industries (RIL) is planning to launch fourth generation or 4G-enabled entry-level smartphones for as less as Rs 2,000, bettering the promise of launching such devices for less than Rs 4,000 during RIL's AGM in May.
These entry-level smartphones with inbuilt Jio apps will be sold under the in-house brand 'ReConnect' and will be sold through the network of Reliance Retail, the retailing arm of RIL. The idea is to replicate the success of 'Monsoon Hungama', when Reliance Communications (now owned by Anil Ambani) gave away mobile connections along with mobile handsets for just Rs 501 during 2003-2004 to capture the mass market.
Reliance Jio, the telecommunications arm of RIL, targets to corner 10 crore of the 90 crore consumers in the world's fastest growing mobile market. "We want the entire range of smartphones to be available for the consumers to choose from. Starting from entry-level smartphones for Rs 2,000 to iPhones for Rs 20,000. There will be various price points to meet the needs of all the consumers," a Reliance Jio official said on the condition of anonymity.
Reliance Jio is working with 24 handset makers and five chipmakers to launch the entire range of devices at all price points. A mail sent to RIL remained unanswered till the time of going to print. "The idea is not to make profits on selling handsets. We will sell them at 'no-profit, no-loss' basis and will not subsidize the handsets. We want to ensure that the entire ecosystem of devices are available before the commercial launch," Anshuman Thakur, head of business strategy development at Reliance Jio, had said after RIL's Q2 results in July.
Reliance Jio set to disrupt the Indian telecommunications market with the launch of its 4G mobile telephony services across the country in December. The company is planning to use the network of its retail stores to hawk the smartphones. Reliance Digital has over 1,300 retail outlets across the country.
RIL shares on BSE closed up 3% at Rs 873 in a firm Mumbai market on Wednesday.

Srinagar: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday joined other service providers in announcing relief to customers in the Valley during the period when the state was hit by floods.
The company said it would not charge its customers in Jammu and Kashmir for the telecommunication services for the month of September for not being able to provide the services fully during the period.
The announcement came following state Governor NN Vohra's suggestion in this regard to RN Sudhakar, chief general manager, BSNL, Jammu and Kashmir Circle, who called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan yesterday.
"Sudhakar agreed to the Governor's suggestion that the consumers must not be billed for the current billing cycle and, in fact, given certain concessions," an official spokesman said.
He said Sudhakar informed the Governor about the various problems which had been encountered by BSNL in restoring telecommunication services in the aftermath of recent floods in the State.
He also apprised the Governor of the steps so far taken to address these difficulties.
A great deal of progress has been being achieved in the replacement of Transmission Equipment at BSNL office in Lal Chowk and in partially restoring the mobile network, landline telephones, wireless telephone lines and Internet facility.
He said the Governor emphasised the need for reliable alternate wireless connectivity in the State, which can be used at the time of disasters and stressed the importance of telecommunication facilities for the revival of economy of the state after this mega disaster.
Meanwhile, Idea Cellular also announced that the company will waive off charges for its services for the period they remained affected due to the floods.
Reliance Communications had yesterday said its subscribers in the flood-affected Kashmir region will get a 50 percent waiver on voice packs and 100 percent waiver on data packs for September.

Srinagar: Reliance Communications’ subscribers in the flood-affected Kashmir region will get a 50 per cent waiver on voice packs and 100 per cent waiver on data packs for September, the company announced today.
“Since our services were not operational for some time in Kashmir due to floods, we will be providing a 15-day waiver of fees in respect of voice pack customers,” an official of the Reliance Communications told PTI.
He said the data pack customers will get a full waiver of charges till the 3G services are restored in the valley.
Several customers had accused the telecom service provider of insensitive approach as they were asked to pay late fees for not being able to pay bills in time when the valley was flooded.
The official said the late payment charges were included in the bills as these were automatically generated by the computers. “The company has waived off the late payment charges as well,” he added.
