SRINAGAR — Peoples Democratic Party leader and MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para on Wednesday hit out at the J&K Government for failing to get any concessions from the Union government.
Para was responding to the Centre's decision granting reservation and domicile rules for Ladakh, reserving 85 per cent jobs for locals and setting a criterion of 15 years of uninterrupted stay in the Union Territory for domicile status.
The two Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir were carved out from the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state following the scrapping of Article 370 in August 2019. In Jammu and Kashmir UT, anyone who has resided for 15 years can get the privilege of a domicile. This rule applies retrospectively in the case of Jammu and Kashmir UT.
"Ladakh secured 85% job reservation for locals without even a Legislative Assembly. Ladakhi leaders worked, engaged, and delivered. Meanwhile, J&K’s government, with a majority, remains inactive — 8 months on, sky-high promises, zero delivery," Para said in a post on X.
Jammu and Kashmir Government during the last Assembly session in April said that over 83,000 domicile certificates have been issued to non-state subjects in the UT over the last two years. The government was responding to a question raised by MLA Waheed Para.
