Srinagar, Dec 14: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked people to stage protests on December 16 after Friday prayers against the seizure of the calendars of the amalgam by police.
In a statement, the conglomerate termed the police act “as unethical, unconstitutional, unprovoked and interference in the religious affairs.”
“We also appeal the people of Rajouri, Doda, Kishtawar and Poonch to register their protests against the seizure of the calendars. Police claim that objectionable matter was printed in the calenders is ridiculous,” the statement said.
“There are only Islamic teachings in the calenders. Although names of the martyrs of 2008, 2009 and 2010 are published in the calendar, but it is not a crime or objectionable,” he added.
