New Delhi, Dec 14: Spread over 850 pages and weighing 80 kilograms, it is a unique publication celebrating the Holy pilgrimage of Hajj.
Titled ‘The Official Journey to Makkah Opus’, the book focuses on the rich intellectual and theological tradition in Islam.
The Indian edition of the book was unveiled during an impressive pre-launch function by Prince Turki Bin Faisal Al Saud of Saudi Arab, a member of the Saudi royal family, here on Wednesday. Its formal release is slated to take place sometime next year.
According to Carl Fowler of the Opus India group, the book is a compendium of finest scholarly writing, and both historical and specially commissioned art and photography. It will faithfully represent the incredible journey of Hajj pilgrimage world-over.
The book is a limited edition volume which contains 100,000 words both in Arabic and English with the support of 2,000 photographs, most of which have been specially commissioned. A striking feature of the book is the two meters long gatefold pictures, Fowler added.
The book has also been compiled with a view to make it an educational tool for those who follow and those who are interested in the Islamic faith, he added. The Opus Media Group and Dainik Bhaskar Group, India’s largest newspaper group, have joined hands to launch the book’s India edition which is one of the 12 special country editions.
Throwing light on the contents of the book, Fowler said it is not a traditional book. Half of its content has never been published before. “It is an incredible and emotive story,” he commented.
Content-wise, the book has exclusive interviews, profile, photography and features, including contributions from eminent Islamic scholars and Islamic VVIPs across the world.
Journey to Makkah Opus will include essays from eminent Arabic scholars on the history of the Hajj, the Ka’bah, the Kiswah, the Zamzam Well and every aspect of the rituals of the pilgrimage. The sheer scale of the Opus differentiates it from any other publication.
