PULWAMA — Police in Pulwama have cracked down on illegal gambling activities, arresting nine individuals and confiscating stake money and playing cards from their possession.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding gambling operations in the Saidpora area of Pulwama, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Pulwama conducted a raid, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects on the spot.

Among those arrested are identified as Mohammad Abbas Bhat and Ashiq Hussain Dar from Arigam, Mohammad Shameem Mir from Patipora, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat from Karimabad, Bashir Ahmed Ganaie from Pinjoora Shopian, Teja Singh from Saidpora, Abdul Hameed Bhat from Chitragam Shopian, Bilal Ahmed Dar from Below Pulwama, and Mohammad Iqbal Mir from Pinglena Pulwama. They are currently in police custody.

During the operation, officers seized a sum of ₹51,500 in stake money along with playing cards from the individuals involved. The confiscated items have been submitted as evidence.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Pulwama, marked as FIR No. 57/2024, and further investigation is underway.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that those engaging in criminal activities will face legal consequences. They urge community members to cooperate by reporting any suspicious behaviour or criminal activities to local police authorities.
