Pulwama: Even as the police released all detained youths in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district but the deadlock over the installation of militant memorial continues, resulting in shutdown for the sixth consecutive day.
According to GNS, police released all the youths in the Town detained over past few days on the charges of stone-pelting and held a meeting with the Auqaf Committee Pulwama and Traders Association.
During the meeting the police said they would allow the installation of militant memorial in the Town after two months. But, a participant of the meet told GNS that the traders and Auqaf members sought the written assurance from the SP Pulwama.
“They argued that if he was transferred then who would be the guarantor and sought his written assurance. But the SP refused to give written assurance and this led to failure of talks to end the strike in the Town,” he said. The youths of the Pulwama have already announced indefinite strike till the memorial is not installed at Shaheed Park.
As part of the ongoing tension, the Pulwama Town and its adjoining areas continued to observe strike on Tuesday.
All the shops, business establishments and other private offices were closed and the traffic was also affected.
The Pulwama Town is observing shutdown since last week after two militants – one local and another foreigner — were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Goosu village of the district.
