SRINAGAR — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday extended greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.
In his message, LG Sinha said: "Heartiest greetings to all on the joyous occasion of Independence Day."
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended greetings to the people of J&K and the nation. He reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, unity, peace and progress, and to building a stronger and more prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
"May the spirit of freedom continue to inspire hope and a brighter future for all," the Chief Minister said.
Security and celebrations
Officials told the news agency GNS that foolproof security arrangements have been made for the main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, which is underway.
A large crowd was seen waving the Tricolour inside the stadium, with more people continuing to arrive. Officials said people have come from all over Kashmir to participate in the celebrations at Bakshi Stadium.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will lead the main function in Srinagar, while Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the celebrations at M.A. Stadium, Jammu.
Flag hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural programs are being held across the Union Territory to mark the 80th Independence Day.
