JAMMU — The Yuva Rajput Sabha, a non-political outfit, on Monday staged a protest in support of aspirants for the post of Naib Tehsildar who are opposing Urdu language as mandatory to appear in the examination. The Sabha also lent support to the outstanding athletes who are fighting for jobs under the SRO in the government sectors.

Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to include Urdu as a compulsory subject in the recently notified Naib Tehsildar recruitment 2025.

Shouting slogans, the members of Yuva Rajput Sabha led by its president Vikram Singh, joined by the Naib Tehsildar recruitment aspirants and outstanding sportspersons, this morning staged a protest and blocked one of the busiest River Tawi bridges connecting North and South Jammu.

Holding placards, the Yuva Rajput Sabha leaders staged a sit-in at the Maharaja Hari Singh statue on the bridge, demanding justice for the aspirants.

They lashed out at the Jammu and Kashmir Government, alleging that such decisions are not in the interest of the youth.

“We are not against the Urdu language but it should not be mandatory for the candidates appearing in the examination because languages like Hindi, English, Sanskrit and Kashmiri are also included as official languages in the government,” said the leaders.

The official languages of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are Kashmiri, Dogri, Urdu, Hindi, and English and are designated for use in all official purposes of the Union Territory, as per the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act, 2020, they added.

The protesting Yuva Rajput Sabha leaders, however, also supported the concern of outstanding sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir waiting for the release of the selection list under SO 12.

“Today, it is International Olympic Day but our athletes are observing it as a ‘Black Day’ because the outstanding sportspersons already named in the provisional select list under SO 12, are still waiting for the release of the final list,” they said, adding that more than 200 athletes are to be absorbed in the government departments under Sports Policy but till date nothing has been done.

Terming the decisions anti-Jammu and biased, the Yuva Rajput Sabha has demanded justice for these aspirants.
