
SRINAGAR — An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. As per the initial reports, the temblor struck at 10:27 PM and the epicentre was in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.
The quake occurred 198 km inside the earth's crust and its coordinates were latitude 36.52 degrees north and longitude 70.97 degrees east.
No casualty or damage to property were reported from anywhere so far. However, the earthquake triggering panic among the people who rushed outside their homes and called their loved ones to enquire about their wellbeing.
Pertinently, the Kashmir valley is located in an earthquake prone region.
