Anantnag: Shockwaves spread outside Municipal Council office in Anantnag Saturday after an employer Abdul Majeed Sheikh of Deva Colony attempted suicide over a ‘blatant’ transfer order.
Majeed, president of Safai Karam Chari Union had gone to executive officer’s office with demands of the daily wagers where he was told to leave office—“as he has been transferred” to Qazigund with an immediate effect.
Once walking out of the office, he consumed some poisonous substance and was immediately shifted to District hospital—where in a very critical condition he was referred to SKIMS Srinagar.
When contacted, the executive officer Municipality Anantnag, Nayeem Ahmed distanced himself from the development. “The transfer orders come from director’s office not from mine,” he said.
