Srinagar: A group of militants on Saturday escaped after engaging army and police in a brief encounter at Dubjan, a forest area along Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Official sources told GNS that army’s 44 RR and SOG laid a cordon-and-search operation near forest area at Bren Nad adjacent to Dubjan village following the inputs about the presence of some suspicious movement.
While intensifying the searches in the area, the forces opened few warning shots; the militants hiding in the forest area believed to be five in number opened heavy volume of fire which was retaliated by the forces.
After brief exchange of gunfight, the militants managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of bushes and thick forest cover, they said.
A senior army officer said that a militant was injured in the gunfight but managed to escape along with other militants. He said that three bags were also recovered from the encounter site. However, he said the searches in the area were going on to track down the militants.
