Srinagar: Kashmir University has introduced the biometric smart card attendance system to ensure punctuality of teaching and non-teaching staff in the varsity. The order in this regard was issued by administration department on the directions of Vice Chancellor after the students and scholars in the varsity complained that majority of the teaching staff either leave the varsity before due time or remain absent from the duties.
The system records the actual time when an employee enters or leaves the varsity.
Sources told CNS that despite the vehement opposition from the teaching staff, the Vice Chancellor showed green signal and at initial stage the system has been introduced in some sections of administration department itself. “After the administration department, the biometric attendance system will be extended to all the departments in the University in coming few days,” an official told CNS.
Registrar University said that it is a positive system and will be introduced in all the departments.
Sources told CNS that majority of teaching staff has opposed the system terming it against the UGC guidelines. Some feel that biometric smart card attendance system has been introduced to humiliate the teaching staff. “We are undecided over this matter yet. We will call a meeting in this regard. Some of the teachers oppose it while some support it,” president Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA), Sallahuddin told CNS adding that the system is not good for the teachers.
However, the student and scholar community in the varsity have appreciated the move of the administration saying that it will prove beneficial for the students in the long run.
