Srinagar: A local militant was killed during a gunfight with government forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district late Thursday evening, official sources said.
Militants exchanged fire with forces in Chorus area in the district's Awantipora region, Kashmir Dispatch reported.
The fire exchange, sources said, began after forces including police's Special Operation Group and army 42 and 55 Rashtriya rifles launched a search operation in the village. A local militant Reyaz Ahmad Naikoo from Beighpur was killed in the initial exchange of fire, they added.
Sources further said two militants were hiding in the village and one of them is trapped in a house. The exchange of fire was going on when the report was being filed. Unconfirmed reports said that the slain militant was a member of Hizbul Mujhideen.
