Srinagar: The Government of India has reportedly cleared the name of Lt Gen (Retd) Ata Hasnain as the next Governor of J&K. The formal announcement in this regard is likely to be made in a week’s time.
Hasnain will replace Narendra Nath Vohra, who is running his second tenure as Governor of the state.
General Hasnain is the former General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps and is presently a Visiting Fellow of the Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi.
“His crucial appointments in JK in various capacities goes to his credit for this assignment,” sources in Ministry of Home Affairs said.
Sources said that Narendra Modi-led government wanted to appoint someone who has strong and upright credentials, before the state assembly elections. “Ata Hasnain was one of the choices for the Governor’s post and it has almost been cleared,” sources added. “His pro-people role during his stint as the GoC of the 15 Corps earned laurels for him.”
As a Brigadier, Hasnain served as Commander, 12 Infantry Brigade, on the Line of Control in Uri of north Kashmir. Having commanded 19 Infantry Division in Baramulla, Lieutenant General Hasnain was posted as General Officer Commanding 15 Corps in October 2010.

    I had the privellige to server under the command of Gen Hasnain, it will be beneficial to the state of J&K , if he becomes Governor , eagerly waiting for that day to come !!
