Srinagar: The security guards of three Ministers of the present government allegedly resorted to aerial firing, after the locals at Panta Chowk on Srinagar-Jammu Highway attacked the cavalcades of the Ministers with stones.
Sources said that National Conference Ministers Chodhri Muhammad Ramzan, Sakina Itoo and Mir Saifullah were on way to South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to assess the flood situation there when group of people attacked their cavalcades with stones. Reports said that locals from flood hit areas of Panthachowk alleged that government did not pay heed to their repeated requests when they were trapped in the flash floods on Thursday. Sources added that some people resorted to stone-pelting. As a result, there was chaos and confusion.
Police sources confirmed that the security guards of the Minister fired some bullets in air to disperse the angry mob. “Two Scorpio vehicles which were part of the cavalcade suffered damages, however nobody was hurt in the incident,” a police official on condition of anonymity said.
Social Welfare Minister, Sakina Itoo confirmed the incident and said that they failed to understand who and why their cavalcades were attacked. “The ‘attackers’ were already waiting for us. As we reached there, they pelted stones. We somehow managed to escape from the spot,” she said.
