Srinagar: Four days after snowfall, electricity supply was partially restored in the Valley on Monday.
However, reports said the supply remained effected in far-flung Kandi areas of Kupwara and Baramulla, upper reaches of Bandipora, Budgam, Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian districts.
Due to shortage of the power, Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, where the supply lines were restored, are getting an hour-long power supply after every couple of hours.
Chief Engineer System and Operations (S&O), Ayaz Gull, told KNS that power supply has been restored in 40 percent areas of South Kashmir, 98 percent areas of City and 99 percent areas of North Kashmir.
“As there was more snow in South Kashmir, it may take some more time to restore the supply fully,” he said.
The Chief Engineer claimed that there was no power crisis in the Valley. “There will be no crisis in future also. But it is upto the consumers how they will utilise the power,” he told KNS.
Asked to comment about the complaints of consumers that there was no power in their areas, he said, “It is partially correct. Some areas don’t have electricity as electric poles and lines have been disrupted due to the snowfall. We are working on it and it would be restored soon,” Gull added.
Due to unprecedented snowfall in higher reaches of Pir Panjal mountains, a fault had developed on Kishanpur-Wagoora Transmission Line at Pogal Paristan besides affecting as many as 19 grid stations.
The internet services have also not been fully restored. Several telecom companies including state owned BSNL have been unable to provide internet facility to its users after snowfall.
Meanwhile, Kashmir continues to be under the grip of intense cold with Srinagar witnessing -4.4 degree celcius last night. The snow has frozen and it is hampering free movement of people.
