Srinagar: Reacting cautiously to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference Saturday termed the survey ‘another attempt to give a communal colour to the freedom movement.
“Hurriyat deems it important to clear the air on the findings of the survey especially what has been told on the growing inclination of youth towards Islam,” a statement of the amalgam reads.
“Islam is the identity of Muslims in the same way Hindu religion is for Hindus and Christianity for Christians and connecting research with religion is wrong,” the statement added. While terming the findings an attempt to dilute the ‘freedom movement’ by tainting it with communal colour, Hurriyat (M) has suggested that "instead of turning to communal things, serious efforts should be made to solve the Kashmir problem."
