Karachi: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has vowed to never resume his cricket captaincy but continue playing cricket as a team member after having seen his tenure marred by controversies.
"I don't want to be sacrificed time and again over the captaincy issue and this time I have decided to just continue playing as a member of the team and enjoy my cricket," Afridi said.
"After the way I was treated last year I was heartbroken and I have decided never to be the captain again and to just carry on as an ordinary member of the team and do whatever I can for the team as a senior player," he added.
Former PCB chairman Ijaz Butt had blamed Afridi for the defeats in the last two ODIs of the series.
Afridi, subsequently, announced his retirement in protest citing the harsh treatment meted out to him by the PCB.
He also moved the Sindh High Court against the board but agreed to appear before the PCB disciplinary committee and paid a 4.5 million rupee fine for breaching the code of conduct.
Afridi retracted his retirement decision after Zaka Ashraf took over as new PCB chairperson.
Afridi said the atmosphere of the dressing room had improved with the arrival of the new management.
