Srinagar, Dec 9: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday urged people to stay away from social evils like consuming liquor.
Addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz talked tough against the consumption and trade of liquor. “Taking wine is against the teachings and principles of Islam and is forbidden in Islam,” he added.
The Hurriyat (M) chairman expressed concerns about the advocacy of spreading of liquor in the valley. “Some vested interests are hatching conspiracies against the youth of Kashmir, especially the Muslim youth. Evil of liquor consuming has spoiled many nations, even in India the sale and consume of liquor has been banned,” he added.
Umar also said that it is a matter of serious concern that some people are advocating its free sale in the valley even they know that Kashmir is the Muslim majority state.
He condemned the advocacy for sale of liquor in the valley and appealed the religious scholars, preachers and people to stand against this conspiracy and play their part to curb this menace.
