Srinagar, Dec 16: Reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s yesterday’s statement that separatists were forcing the people to adhere to their calendar of disturbance and lockouts, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani Friday claimed that, Omar’s government can’t survive for a day without support from army and police.
“If Army is called back, the government would not survive even for a minute,” Geelani said in a statement here.
Condemning the killing of shopkeeper, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, Geelani said that the deceased was a freedom lover youth. “Some suspected hooligans killed Tariq on personal grudge,” Geelani said.
He claimed that the reasons for the murder are being kept secret “so that truth will not come out.”
Reacting to Omar’s allegations that separatists were using muscle power, Geelani said, “National Conference is party with full of hooligans. They forcefully trample the rights and aspirations of people of Kashmir.”
“Freedom movement does not need muscle power. Our youth are on forefront to carry the mission forward, and they have always sacrificed for the cause,” he added.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that during the 2010 unrest “the government forces killed around 120 youth”
“What will you call that? Isn’t that hooliganism?” he asked.
Without naming Omar, he challenged him to come out of security and then see who survives in politics. “Come out of the security cocoon and see who is raising hollow slogans,” Geelani challenged.
