Srinagar, Nov 28: The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has urged Saudi Arabia to play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris.
Malik, who is currently in Saudi Arabia in connection with Hajj pilgrimage while interacting with the Rabita Alam-e-Islam (Muslim World League) secretary general Dr Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki said, “Saudi Arabia is the centre of Muslims’ reverence and devotion. It cannot ignore the problems faced by Muslims anywhere in the world. It has a role to resolve the Kashmir issue.”
Malik apprised the Muslim World League general secretary about the prevailing situation in Kashmir and the “human rights violations being perpetrated” on Kashmiris allegedly by the forces to suppress their ongoing peaceful movement.
He said that Saudi Arabia which has close friendly relations with both India and Pakistan. “I hope Saudi Arabia will use its influence to get Kashmir issue resolved in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris,” said Malik.
He said Kashmiris on the instance of international community made a transition from violent to non-violent struggle and there was now no hurdle for the international community to resolve the Kashmir issue. He alleged that New Delhi was using “unilateral violence” to suppress the genuine aspirations of Kashmiris.
He said there were various draconian laws like AFSPA, PSA and Enemy Act in vogue in Kashmir giving impunity to armed forces to commit human rights violations and curb civil liberties of people. He alleged that not only the pro-freedom leaders but also the common civilians including children were being booked under “draconian laws” and sent to jails.
Malik hoped that the Muslim World League would convene an international peace conference on Kashmir issue to highlight the importance of its resolution.
Dr Abdullah A Mohsin Al-Turki, according to JKLF statement, assured Malik that suggestions put forward by him would be looked into.
