SRINAGAR — A Tiranga rally was on Wednesday organized in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district during which a 2.5-kilometre-long national flag was hoisted, which is a first-of-its-kind event.

The 'Tiranga Rally', part of the government's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, is encouraging people to bring the flag home and hoist it as a symbol of India's independence.

Thousands of people took part in this massive rally, which created a record by waving a 2.5-kilometre-long flag in Rafiabad area of ​​Baramulla.

People from all walks of life, including students, enthusiastically participated in this massive Tiranga rally.

A local official said this new enthusiasm is especially evident among school-going students, who proudly sing the national anthem during these rallies. He said the change is amazing, as the national flag now adorns every market, rooftop, school, college and office in Jammu and Kashmir. It is a symbol of national pride and a collective embrace of unity.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Baramulla Minga Sherpa said that this change is a sign of coming out of the atmosphere of fear and hesitation in the past, as the people of Kashmir are now openly expressing their patriotism through national symbols. He said that hoisting the national flag and singing the national anthem is now done with love and respect in Kashmir.

He said that though this was something that people were not accepting initially, now everyone is wholeheartedly accepting this change and appreciates the playing of the national anthem.

One of the locals said that hoisting flags or carrying the national flag and playing the national anthem has now become a common practice everywhere in the Union Territory, be it schools, colleges or private functions.

SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday dismissed four employees including two Constables in J&K Police, a teacher in Education Department and an Assistant Lineman in Jal Shakti Department in terms of Article 311 of the Constitution of India for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities.

In a statement to the news agency KDC, a government spokesman said, “The activities of these employees had come to the adverse notice of law enforcement and intelligence agencies, as they found them involved in activities prejudicial to the interests of the State, such as involvement in terror-related activities.”

According to the statement, Abdul Rehman Dar, son of Sona Ullah Dar and a resident of Larmooh locality of Tral area in Pulwama district, who was a Selection Grade Constable in Police Department, was involved in the commission of the offence of not only carrying illegal arms and ammunition from one place to another for their delivery to the militants but also providing camouflage uniform cloth and other material to them, taking undue and criminal advantage of his being a member of the police force.

Another Constable in J&K Police, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, son of Jawaid Hyder Bhat and a resident of Lalgam locality of Tral area in Pulwama district, is also allegedly involved in the commission of the offence of carrying illegal arms and ammunition from one place to another for delivery to the militants. As a Kote NCO in the armory of a district, he was allegedly supplying ammunition and weapons to the militants for a long time. "He was linked to the terrorist ecosystem, through a network of OGWs, who have been operating at the behest of terrorist outfits based in Pakistan."

A teacher in the Education Department, Shabeer Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani and a resident of Bungam locality of Damhal Hanjipora area in Kulgam district, has been an active member of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and is a proscribed separatist associate having tangible links with militant organization, the statement said.

"He played a substantial role in strengthening JeI and creating a network of people among JeI sympathizers. Various FIRs have been registered against him because of his direct involvement in inciting and leading an unlawful assembly of mob instigating rioting and violence in D.H. Pora, during the 2016 unrest," the statement said.

As per the statement, he continues to be "a hardcore OGW of banned terror outfits, in particular the HM, and his affiliation has perpetually aided terrorist activities in and around Kulgam, collecting information for facilitating attacks, clandestinely."

An Assistant Lineman in the Jal Shakti Department, Anayatullah Shah Pirzada, son of Abdul Rashid Shah Pirzada and a resident of Watergam locality of Rafiabad area in Baramulla district, is accused of being a militant associate of Al-Badr Mujahideen.

As per the spokesman, Anayatullah has worked covertly in a variety of ways to support the agenda of militants. "He had direct association with dreaded terrorists like Yousuf Baloch and Tameem, who were the commanders of Al-Badr Mujahideen, operating at different times in Kashmir. He has been involved in various FIRs pertaining to the recovery of satellite phones, hand grenades etc and communicating with the terrorists of Al-Badr Mujahideen based in Pakistan."

The government, as per the statement, has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards anti-national elements who have been taking advantage of being in government service.

SRINAGAR — An elderly woman was allegedly killed by her son in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

An official quoted by a local news agency said that a lady (name withheld), aged 48 years and a resident of Hadipora Sopore, was allegedly attacked by her son with a knife and injured critically.

However, she was immediately taken to Sub-district Hospital Sopore where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The official further said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and arrested the accused son involved in the crime. He identified the accused as Amir Farooq Wani.

The official further said a case in this regard bearing FIR number 28/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been set into motion. He said the weapons of offence has also been seized from the spot.

BARAMULLA — Jammu and Kashmir Police executed a significant operation resulting in the attachment of properties belonging to notorious drug peddlers in Baramulla district, valued at approximately Rs. 60 lacs.

According to an official communication, as per a local news agency, the properties, linked to Mohammad Ayoob Shah and Ghulam Mohammad Shah, alias Gulshah, were seized. Both individuals, sons of Abdul Khaliq and residents of Ladoora Rafiabad, District Baramulla, are alleged to be involved in drug trafficking activities.

This action, conducted under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985, stems from the ongoing investigation related to case FIR No. 18/2024 under section 8/21 NDPS Act at Police Station Baramulla.

Upon scrutiny, the police identified these properties as unlawfully acquired and suspected to have been procured through the illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances by the accused drug peddlers.

SRINAGAR — A 25-old-year old man died by suicide after hanging himself at his home in Khushipora area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the youth (name withheld), who was a resident of Khushipora Panzalla, hung himself with a ceiling fan at his home.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that cognizance of the incident has been taken as well as an investigation has been taken up.
