SHOPIAN — Cyber Police Station Shopian has successfully recovered an amount of Rs 63,22,792 for victims of various cyber fraud cases during the current year, following the completion of all prescribed legal and judicial formalities.

The recovery was achieved through prompt action and professional investigation by the Cyber Police Station Shopian team led by Imtiyaz Ahmad, Station House Officer of Cyber Police Station Shopian, under the supervision of Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian.

Officials said that during the period under report, Cyber Police Station Shopian received multiple complaints related to UPI-based frauds, social media scams, fake loan applications, misuse of OTPs and other forms of online financial deception. On receipt of complaints, immediate action was initiated, and investigations were carried out using advanced technical and digital tools.

Through effective coordination with concerned banks and financial institutions, several suspicious transactions were frozen at critical stages, which not only stopped additional siphoning of funds but also facilitated the recovery of defrauded amounts.

The recovery, officials said, reflects the sustained efforts of Shopian Police in effectively handling cybercrime cases and providing timely relief to victims, in line with the directions and guidelines issued by higher headquarters.

Meanwhile, Shopian Police have advised the general public to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and strictly follow cyber safety practices.
