JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted searches for banned literature in bookshops in Poonch district.

Police spokesman here said that acting on directions regarding the forfeiture of 25 books identified for promoting false narratives and secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir under Section 98 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, District Police Poonch conducted searches of bookshops across the district.

During the searches, no such book was found in any of the premises visited, the spokesman said, adding, "Bookshop owners were sensitised about the directive and cautioned to ensure that such prohibited material is neither stocked nor sold in any form."

He said that the police reiterated their commitment to upholding peace, safeguarding public order, and protecting the sovereignty of the nation through the strict enforcement of all legal provisions.
