SRINAGAR — In a move that has triggered concerns over the safety of cash-dispensing machines and the risk of rising vandalism, G Active Security Services has formally notified the withdrawal of its security personnel from 650 Jammu and Kashmir Bank ATMs across the Union Territory.
The step comes following directives issued by the Central Security Department of J&K Bank Corporate Headquarters (CHQ).
In a letter addressed to all concerned branch heads, G Active Security Services stated that its security services will no longer be required at the listed ATM sites effective from July 11, 2025, and requested that deployed guards be informed accordingly. The communication also serves as a one-month formal notice of service termination from the listed locations.
“All concerned branch heads are hereby requested to inform the security personnel deployed at the respective sites and provide them with a copy of this letter,” reads the notice signed by the Managing Director of G Active Security Services, headquartered at Iqbal Abad, Bemina, Srinagar.
The letter, which includes an enclosure of affected sites, follows orders from J&K Bank’s central security wing and signals a significant shift in the bank’s ATM security policy. However, the reasoning behind the move has not been made public, sparking unease among both employees and customers, particularly in areas prone to theft or property damage.
Many have questioned whether J&K Bank has alternative measures in place to secure the ATMs once the guards are removed. “This is not just about removing a few guards—it could affect the safety of customers, bank infrastructure, and the cash stored in these machines,” said a concerned employee, speaking to the news agency KNT on condition of anonymity.
While G Active Security Services has expressed readiness to provide any further assistance or clarification, the withdrawal raises broader questions about security outsourcing, staff welfare, and the financial institutions’ preparedness to prevent ATM-related crimes post-July 11.
