ANANTNAG — The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board on Thursday handed over a job appointment letter to the brother of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the brave horse ride operator who lost his life while trying to save tourists during the deadly militant attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam.
Waqf Board Chairperson, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi presented the letter to Nazakat Ahmad, the younger brother of the slain youth.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Dr Andrabi said the gesture was a small tribute to the courage and selflessness shown by Adil. “We are deeply moved by his sacrifice. The job appointment for his family is a token of respect and acknowledgement of his bravery,” she said.
Syed Adil Hussain was among the 26 civilians killed on April 22 when militants opened fire on a group of tourists in the picturesque valley of Baisaran. His actions during the attack, witnesses say, helped save several lives before he succumbed to his injuries.
Expressing gratitude, Nazakat Ahmad said he was proud of his brother’s sacrifice. “He gave his life for others. This job means a lot to our family at a time when we are still trying to come to terms with his loss,” he said.
The attack had drawn widespread condemnation, and Adil’s bravery was hailed across social and political circles. The Waqf Board’s move to support his family has been widely appreciated as a meaningful act of solidarity and compassion.
