
SOPORE — In a significant operation, police in Sopore, located in north Kashmir, announced the apprehension of a militant associate, accompanied by the recovery of a hand grenade.
According to an official quoted by a local news agency, acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising Sopore Police, 22RR, and 179 BN CRPF detained Arif Hussain Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Mundji Bomai. Bhat, alleged to have maintained consistent communication with militant handlers across the border, was taken into custody.
During interrogation, Bhat reportedly confessed to his militancy connections, leading to the recovery of a live hand grenade based on his disclosures.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings, with a case registered under FIR No. 04/2024, incorporating relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Police Station Bomai. The investigation remains ongoing.
