SRINAGAR — Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar today said that it is not the first time Kashmir has witnessed a dry winter. He said in 2014 and 2015 and even in 2017, a prolonged dry spell swept across Kashmir Valley.

He said there is a possibility of light snowfall between January 16 and 17 in far-off areas of central Kashmir and north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“There are indications that between January 20 and 21, the weather may turn cloudy and there will be a light snowfall in hilly areas. However, the weather may change from January 24 onwards and Kashmir Valley may witness a snowfall,” Dr Mukhtar said.

Pertinently, most plains in Kashmir Valley have not received any snow while the upper reaches saw less than usual snowfall this season.
