SRINAGAR — Authorities on Friday allowed congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid here in Srinagar.

The prayers took place in the grand mosque after it remained locked for 10 consecutive Fridays.

Reports said that devotees in large numbers took part in prayers, while as adequate security arrangements were put in place outside Jamia Masjid to thwart any misadventure.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was not allowed by authorities to lead the prayers as he was confined to his residence at Nigeen Srinagar.
