SHOPIAN — A 7-year-old kid slipped to death in a pond backside of a government school in Sedow village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Police sources, as per the news agency KNT, said that the kid identified as Farhan Muzaffar of Sedow village while walking on the outer cemented path of a pond, lost balance and drowned to death.

The pond that locals use for drinking purposes for the live-stock is situated 40 feet away from the Government Middle School Sedow.

“We had requested the school authorities to do fencing of the school premises repeatedly but that didn’t materialize. It’s a man-made constructed pond, where cattle quench their thirst, adjacent to a meadow as well as a school,” Iqbal Ahmed, a local said.

The body of the victim was fished out by locals from the pond. Later, police visited the spot and registered a case under relevant sections of law.

Locals reiterated their demand and appealed to authorities to do fencing of the school where kids are being imparted education.
