SRINAGAR — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had lost faith in elections due to the rigging in the majority of the polls and the 1987 election was the culmination of all the frauds in elections.
Addressing a presser at her Gupkar residence, Mehbooba, as per the news agency KNO, said that J&K merged with independent India after Maharaja rule, but some incidents including the undemocratic dismissal of Sheikh Abdullah and the one-sided elections of 1987 was the culmination of all the frauds in elections due to which the peaceful people of J&K resolved to pick up arms.
“This is the reason that Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced free and fair elections in 2002,” she said.
