SRINAGAR — Professor (Retired) Nilofar Khan, who was yesterday appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, assumed charge of the office on Friday.
An official from Kashmir University confirmed to Kashmir Dot Com that Khan assumed the charge of the office of Vice-Chancellor this morning and was welcomed by the officials on her arrival at the varsity.
Since morning, a number of people have made a beeline to the office of VC, congratulating her on becoming the head of the Valley’s premier institution.
She was appointed as the first female VC of Kashmir University by Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of the varsity, by exercising power vested in him under Section 12 of Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act - 1969.
Khan succeeds Professor Talat Ahmad, who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the KU on two separate terms.
In teaching, Professor Nilofar Khan has 30 years of experience and has also had the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as Dean of Student Welfare at the university a few years ago. Professor Khan earlier held the post of Dean College Development Council.
