Pulwama: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Shah on Wednesday castigated the government over what he termed its "repressive measures" to break the sentiments of people in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today, Shah condemned the "atrocities unleashed by police and administration upon the people of Zewan saying such measures will not help authorities in any way."

"By resorting to such repressive measures, authorities cannot break the pro-freedom sentiments of people rather it makes the people's resolve towards freedom struggle much stronger," he said.

Police had used teargas shells to prevent mourners from offering funeral prayers of a Lashkar militant Sajad Bhat on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Zewan on Tuesday.
Shah also accused the administration of "complicating" the issue of martyrs' memorial in Pulwama, where a shutdown continued on 13th day today over the demand of installation of the memorial at Shaheed Park.

"Such attitude on part of authorities is against law," he said while maintaining that "people have every right to remember their beloved ones who sacrificed their lives while fighting the tyranny and oppression."

Reiterated his support to the martyrs' memorial campaign, Shah extended support to a call for peaceful protests after Friday prayers issued by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
