Pulwama: Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf, Mr Abdul Rehman Veeri hoisted Tri-colour at Pulwama District headquarters and took salute at march past comprising contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, Home guard, Fire and Emergency Services and Police band and school children.
MLA, Pulwama, Mr. Mohammad Khalil Bandh, MLA Pampore, Mir Zahoor Ahmed besides Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, SSP Pulwama, ADC and senior officers of district administration were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Veeri said that after freedom, the country has made strides during last 68 years in various sectors particularly education, science and technology, health, power and agriculture. "Our country is the largest democracy in the world where everyone enjoys fundamental rights", he added.
Referring to the prevailing situation in the Valley, the Minister appealed the people to cooperate with the Government to bring normalcy and peace, adding that it was imperative for the socio-economic development of the State.
The Minister said that the Government is abreast with the grievances of the people; especially the youth and all available resources will be pooled to redress these.
He said to revamp the overall developmental process across the State; the government has initiated several reformative and exemplary measures for early benefit of the people of all the regions of the State.
He called upon youth to utilize their energy for making their future bright and not waste precious time of their life.
In the Horticulture sector, the Minister said Government has announced several measures to boost the export-oriented industry. He said to improve quality, the government has decided to revive the Market Intervention Scheme for procuring C-grade fruit and the government will also offer risk cover to farmers and fruit growers against vagaries of weather by offering crop insurance.
The Minister highlighted the achievements of the Government during the short tenure. He talked about enhancement in district plan upto Rs. 116.73 crore of which Rs. 87 crore have been released for the completion of various developmental projects, National Highway status to Mughal Road and earlier completion of circular road in Pulwama district.
On the occasion the school children presented variety of cultural programmes depicts on nation strengthen, communal harmony and brotherhood.
Later, the Minister prayed for the peace and tranquility of the state and distributed prizes among the contingents as well as among the top meritorious students from different schools.
