New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Doordarshan's farmer-centric channel - DD Kisan here. Speaking on the occasion, Modi underlined that agriculture needs priority in the country if villages have to be developed.
An effort needs to be made to bring change to the agriculture movement of this nation which will then better the economy. Farmers of the country have ensured stomachs are filled without thinking about their own pockets, the Prime Minister said.
The government has prioritised DD Kisan as a "must carry" channel, making it mandatory for cable and Direct to Home (DTH) operators to provide it to their subscribers.
"Since there are farmers in every state, so under the Cable Act, the Kisan channel has been made a must-carry channel. Must carry means that it is compulsory for every cable network or DTH network to carry it," Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley had said earlier.
