Srinagar: An Indian movie set in Kashmir is receiving thumbs-up from reviewers for daring to move away from Bollywoodized memory of valley’s Dal lake, flower-laden shikaras and snow-capped mountains.
Haider, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, will release Friday, October 3, in cinemas across India.
The film is set in 1995 when the armed insurgency against the State was at its peak.
Actors Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha are filmed in dark alleys of Kashmir, where militants and government forces regularly clash with each other.
Kashmir born author of Curfewed Night, Basharat Peer has co-scripted Haider.
