Jammu: Public health Engineering (PHE), Flood Control (FC) and Irrigation sectors have suffered over Rs 500 crore losses in Jammu region due to infrastructural damage caused by floods and incessant rains that lashed the state in first week of September.
“In Jammu province, a total of 3222 schemes have been affected by the floods and the losses have been estimated at Rs 517.14 crore”, senior official of PHE, Flood control and Irrigation department said.
He said that affected schemes include 2591 of Irrigation sector, 1406 of Flood control and 225 Tube Well water supply schemes in addition to regular water supply schemes.
The official said that sixty percent water supply, particularly in rural areas of the region, have been affected due to damages to the Water Supply Schemes (WSS). He added that the estimates of losses due to flood damages have been obtained after conducting detailed assessments in all the ten districts of the region.
He said that the damage estimates have already been submitted to Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for release of funds for taking up the restoration works at the earliest.
As per sector wise breakup of losses, Flood control wing has faced maximum loss of around Rs 311.89 crore due to damages to the protection works followed by Irrigation sector with Rs 136.64 crore losses. The losses due to the damages to the PHE schemes have been assessed at Rs 59.47 crore, while the losses to the PHE Mechanical Division including tube wells has been assessed at Rs 9.13 crore.
He added that the department has sought immediate release of Rs 347.56 crores for temporary restoration of all the schemes while additional Rs 110.11 crore would be required for the permanent restoration.
In Jammu district, the Infrastructural losses in the three sectors are worth Rs 276.26 crore.
In the five Flood Control and Irrigation divisions of Jammu district, a total of 1105 schemes have been damaged and the losses have been assessed at Rs 251.40 crore, while the damages to PHE division have been estimated at Rs 16.83 crore.
In Kathua district, a total 413 PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control schemes of the department have been damaged and the losses have been assessed at Rs 82.81 crore. The PHE sector has borne maximum of Rs 58.81 crore loss in the district followed by Flood control sector with Rs 21.09 crore and Irrigation infrastructure suffering losses worth Rs 3.63 crore.
In Rajouri district, the total losses suffered by the department due to damages to around 354 schemes have been assessed at Rs 74 crore.
In Poonch district, over 230 schemes have been damaged and the losses have been put at Rs 54.82 crore. The damaged schemes include 148 of Irritation and 82 of Flood Control.
In Samba district, the loss due to damages to 98 schemes of the department has been assessed at Rs 35.59 crore, while the losses in Doda district have been assessed at Rs 20.47 crore, which include Rs 14 crore losses due to damages to PHE schemes alone.
Similarly, in Udhampur, Rs 16.68 crore losses have been estimated in view of damages to 254 schemes, including 131 of flood Control and 123 of irrigation, while the damage to PHE infrastructure has been assessed of the order of Rs 10.20 crore.
In Reasi district department has suffered a loss of around Rs 16 crore due to damages to 224 schemes including 64 of Flood Control and 160 of Irrigation.
In Ramban district the total loss assessment of the department has been reported at over Rs 15 crore with maximum loss of Rs 13.40 crore to PHE sector.
In Kishtwar, the total loss on account of damages has been assessed at around Rs 10 crore with Rs 5.70 crore in PHE sector alone. In the district 190 Flood and Irrigation schemes have also been damaged.
