Jammu: Raising concern over the living conditions of flood victims staying in makeshift tents, Srinagar MP and senior PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra has asked the state government to relocate them immediately.
"We call upon the state government to immediately relocate flood-affected people putting up in makeshift tents," the former state minister said in a statement today.
Karra, who has been visiting various flood-affected areas of Srinagar, said he had received complaints from flood victims that the weather and unhygienic conditions have made living in make-shift tents difficult.
"The government must shift all these people living in inhospitable conditions to safer places," he said.
Calling for immediate dewatering of the inundated areas, Karra said it is ironical that almost 19 days after the floods ravaged Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir, several areas in the city including Rajbagh, Kursu, Padshahi Bagh, Lal Chowk, Sumandar Bagh, Jawahar Nagar, Bemina, Barthana, Qamarwari, Mehjoor Nagar and other localities continue to be deluged.
He also sought immediate restoration of telephone and Internet communication facilities in Kashmir which continue to be in a rundown condition since the floods hit the Valley earlier this month.
