Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference chief Syed Ali Geelani Sunday thanked Indian residents who traveled to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir to carry out relief and rescue work.
While terming the recent floods as 'national disaster', octogenarian Geelani also appealed people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha to donate the skin of the sacrificed animals for the flood-hit victims of the state and said: the way in which the Kashmir nation helped each other in the hour of grief has generated a new hope of life in the whole nation. "We hope that this enthusiasm will remain unchanged in future also," the 85-year-old resistance leader said.
He also met a delegation of a Delhi-based NGO which comprises of doctors and traders at his residence. "The delegation closely observed the relief distribution process of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and appreciated the work. They also expressed their desire for helping them in distributing the relief material among the deserving people," a spokesman of his party said.
While giving details of the destruction caused by the recent floods to the delegation, Geelani said the government machinery was washed away by the flood waters on the very first day and is still untraceable. "We are very thankful to those people who in this situation came from other states of India to help the needy people and we expect from them that during their Kashmir stay they will also notice that how India left the people of Kashmir to die and they don’t want Kashmir people to come out of this coma and start a new life," he told the delegation.
