Jammu: Bringing relief to families of people missing in the devastating floods, Jammu and Kashmir's helpline 'J&K Connect Centre' has traced 90 people including a Brazilian woman.
"About 90 persons including a Brazilian woman have been traced so far by our Centre", head of the Centre and Special Secretary to Government, Animal Husbandry Department, Amit Sharma said.
Giving details of the efforts made to rescue the Brazilian, Sharma said, "A phone call was received in the J&K Connect Centre from one Divya, a resident of Gurgoan, pertaining to her Brazilian friend, Lucy Aruzau who was last seen at Pahalgam in Kashmir".
The Connect Centre successfully traced the foreign citizen and connected Lucy with her friend in Gurgaon, he said adding, Divya complimented the team of J&K Connect Centre for this effort.
Similarly, a family of nine in Kashmir was traced and evacuated by the Centre a couple of days back.
The 24x7 dedicated helpline has received 288 telephone calls and 362 persons were reported to be missing in Kashmir floods.
The list of missing persons along with their relevant details is being shared with all authorities such as Army, NDRF, Deputy Commissioners, District Senior Superintendents of Police, State Health Officials, Railway Officials and other concerned.
"90 persons have been traced so far and the information about the same has been conveyed to their near and dear ones," he said.
He said "missing people have been traced primarily due to the novel mechanism devised by the Centre to make return calls to all callers and finding out the latest status of their missing relatives from them as well".
All mobile operators in J&K have been directed to issue bulk SMS facility to all their customers in the state due to which the quantum of calls and messages received by them has increased manifold.
Giving another instance in which the facility helped in tracing those missing, he said a group of 11 people were rescued after the Centre forwarded the case.
"It was a moment of happiness for us. The missing people are from various states of the country. We are even calling for records of about 2000 missing persons, for which calls were received by previous helpline centres set up at Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC)", he said.
The Centre has been set up on the pattern of one set up by the Uttrakhand government during the Kedarnath tragedy.
A secretary-level officer of Uttrakhand Government had come here on the direction's PMO to facilitate setting up of the centre for missing persons.
"The main purpose of this J&K Connect Centre is to help find people who went missing after the floods," he said.
A team of officers and staff is providing the helpline services round-the-clock. A Facebook page has also been created for the purpose.
Apart from this, four dedicated telephone helpline numbers have been started with the numbers 18001807049 (toll-free), 18001807050 (toll-free) 0191-2471522 and 0191-2471922.
