Srinagar, March 13: Mobile internet services may be banned in several areas in Kashmir valley as the Indian Defense Ministry Wednesday maintained that the militants are making phone calls by using the mobile internet (GPRS).
The defense ministry has asked the Department of Communications to take the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs so that the mobile internet services in some sensitive areas of Kashmir valley, where militant activities are high in number, could be suspended, a news agency reported on Wednesday.
The report said the ban must be within the legal limits and that the communication services need to be denied in the affected areas for the effective conduct of the counter insurgency and militant operations.
