Jammu, March 31: J&K Government is set to constitute a committee to make recommendations for regulation of fee structures in private educational institutions in the State, including Primary, Middle, High and Higher Secondary schools.
In his written response to a starred question in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister of School Education Tara Chand said the government has taken up the matter with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for constituting a committee to be headed by a retired judge in pursuance to the Supreme Court directions passed in the case titled ‘Islamic Academy Vs state of Karnataka.’
He also said private schools of Jammu and Kashmir were following guidelines issued by the state government and were not violating the norms with regard to fee structure.
As per data furnished by the government, there are around 5200 private educational institutes functioning in Jammu and Kashmir including Primary, Middle, High and Higher Secondary schools. The data also revealed that 1086206 students are enrolled in these private institutions.
Sources in Law department said that they have got the permission from Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to constitute the committee.
“The committee would be set up in 10 days and its recommendations would be implemented within 45 days. The committee would also classify educational institutions in different categories taking into consideration the infrastructure and teaching faculty,” they said.
“The fee structure will be fixed as per the classification of each educational institution judged on laid down criteria,” sources said, adding, any institution found violating the norms would be punished under law.
