Srinagar, March 11: Putting question mark over the credibility of examination system of Kashmir University, evaluators of answer sheets of Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) program didn’t add up marks properly leading to failure of scores of students, a RTI response from the KU has revealed.
The revelation has come forth after a BBA final year student from Nawa Kadal Degree College, Misbah Izhar filed RTI application in the varsity demanding answer script of Quantitative Techniques (QT).
“The result shocked me. I was confident about the answers I wrote in the paper. And finally I found a difference of more than ten marks,” she said adding that gazette revealed 32 marks whereas the actual score was 43.
Misbah, who intends to appear in MBA entrance test says it may lag her behind other students in the entrance tests where marks secured in degree course is given due weightage.
Her batchmate was shown “fail” in the same subject with 24 marks. But RTI revealed she had actually secured 33 marks.
A KU professor who spoke on the issue said that evaluators are “paid quantitatively by the university.”
“The evaluators try to evaluate more and more papers. They think in terms of money. Every paper checked is paid with a defined sum. They don’t care for the quality check of the papers,” he said.
He said that every evaluator should only be given a fixed set of papers to maintain the quality in evaluation.
“This is not the case of two students alone, some days back scores of BBA students were protesting the same with regard to the Quantitative Techniques paper,” he said.
When contacted, Controller Examination, KU, Abdul Salam Bhat, said: “It should not have happened. We’ll immediately take action in this regard. They (students) should approach us as soon as possible.”
