Srinagar, March 27: 150 Higher Secondary Schools across the State including 92 schools in Kashmir and 58 schools in Jammu division are without Principals, which as a result may lead to deterioration of education system in the State.
The insiders in Education Department told CNS that nearly 150 posts of Principals were lying vacant in the state. Only 32 lecturers have eligibility of 3 years’ services for elevation as Principals, the rest of the senior lecturers have only two years’ service experience.
“Last time the department faced the same situation but at that time relaxation was given and various lecturers were promoted as Principals,” a lecturer Mohammad Shafi told CNS adding that government should again make some relaxations and promote some lecturers as Principals.
A top official said that a Higher Secondary School without permanent Principal suffers on all fronts. “Not only the management of the School works unacceptably but most importantly the over-all education standard diminishes to a great level,” he said.
Some of the Higher Secondary Schools without Principals include Zainakot Higher Secondary School, Nawakadal Higher Secondary School, Parniva Budgam Higher Secondary School, Arigam Higher Secondary School, Kaneura Higher Secondary School and Beerwa Girls Higher Secondary School.
Meanwhile, Education Minister, Tara Chand told CNS that before 15th of April all the vacant posts will be filled up. “We are intending to go for at least 5,000 promotions. Some mistakes occurred on part of clerical staff and that is why these promotions could not be done on time. We have already promoted some Masters to Lecturers and soon we are going to fulfil all the vacant posts of Principals in Jammu and Kashmir,” Tara Chand said.
