Srinagar: Terming Pakistan as the biggest supporter and advocate for Kashmiris in their struggle of right to self determination, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday said that observing February 5 as ‘Day of solidarity with Kashmir’ since 1975 by Pakistan was an indication of its seriousness in their support to Kashmiris for getting their right to self determination.
“On February 5, 1975, former Pakistan Premier Shaheed Zulafkar Ali Bhatoo announced that this day be observed as a day of solidarity with Kashmiri people every year and here in Kashmir late Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq responded by calling a general strike in the valley. And since then it is going on,” Mirwaiz in his statement said.
Extending gratitude on behalf of Hurriyat to Pakistani public and government, Mirwaiz said, “Despite external pressures, Pakistan ’s moral and diplomatic support to Kashmir cause has been encouraging and needs to be appreciated.”
He said that Kashmiri people would carry the struggle peacefully to its logical conclusion.
