Srinagar, Dec 11: Terming India as ‘Land Hungry’Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani today categorically said that militants do not need certificate from separatist leadership as they have taken up arms for freedom.
He alleged police that being our own people still they suppress kashmiri and use force to oppress their own people. He also said that United Nations has become a worthless organisation and with 64 years of its existence the organisation has done nothing to safeguard the human rights in the world.
He was speaking on a seminar held at his residence here, on the eve of International Human Rights Day on December 10. He expressed his serious concerns regarding the human rights in the valley, he alleged the Jammu and Kashmir police for arresting minors and said that the counseling is nothing but a ‘Drama’ to deviate the young people from the freedom. However, he said that using excessive force cannot keep people away from the goals. “When young people loud their voice against the oppression, then they are branded as stone-pelters and slapped PSA’s and arrested,” Geelani alleged.
He also gave statistics and said that during year 2008 105 persons were killed, in 2009, 79 protesters were killed and in 2010, there were 126 persons killed in forces firing. He said that there are 850 persons arrested and presently languishing in prisons. He also alleged security agencies of arresting minors and said that 15 minors have been arrested and are languishing in different jails.
He also alleged that the prisons have been turned into concentration camps, where inmates are being harassed and mis-treated and even tortured physically and mentally.
He termed the announcement of police’s counseling programme as ‘Drama’ and said in the name of counseling these young men had been ‘Brain-washed’ to keep them away from freedom struggle. He, however, asserted that people’s movement cannot die with these dirty tactics.
He flayed the mainstream parties and said that these India puppet parties could not be well wishers of the people of Kashmir. He termed the present government as Hari Singh’s rule. “People might have not suffered in autocratic Dogra regime as much as they suffered at the hands of so called democratic governments,” he added.
He also criticised United Nations for keeping their silence and not taking any notice of the grave human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that India does not want people of Kashmir but the land and alleged that India has been pumping money in order to keep people away from the freedom struggle.
He also alleged that the government is trying to buy people in the name of development. He also alleged that the land has been occupied by the security forces and forests have been looted.
President Bar association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, and general secretary of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai were also present on the occasion.
