Srinagar, Dec 19: The authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) have landed in trouble for publishing graphic of an "oppressor" resembling a "policeman" in Standard-I school text book.
Police have registered the case under sections 124-A RPC (sedition), 120-B RPC (criminal conspiracy), 502 RPC (defamation) and 504 RPC (provocation with intent to breach peace) against those involved in the publishing of the book.
Police claims that the moustached man with a bamboo stick in hand in the Urdu text book, who is depicted as an oppressor (Zalim) is a cop, but Board authorities maintain it was a depiction of a hooligan.
"It was not a deliberate attempt or a conspiracy to defame the police or any section of society. If it has hurt anyone we have deleted the picture," chairman JKBOSE Sheikh Bashir told PTI.
Bashir said a notice has been issued to delete the picture with immediate effect.
"Our officials were asked to record their statement with the police, they went and recorded the statement," he said.
He said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to know why the "mistake" occurred.
The officer investigating the case said the charges have been registered against everyone who is involved in the publishing of the text book.
"We have so far summoned six people including the BOSE chairperson. It is an open FIR and we are investigating who is involved," DySP Shailender Mishra said.
