Srinagar, Dec 17: Business activities remained crippled in the parts of the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) in Srinagar for the third day today in protest against the death of a shopkeeper, allegedly after being hit in the head by miscreants when he refused to close his shop on December 3.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested four people, involved in the crime.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in Nowhatta, Gojwara and nearby areas against the death of Tariq Ahmad Bhat, who succumbed to his injuries in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on December 14.
Today thousands of people offered ''Fateha'' to Bhat on his fourth day.
The strike call was given by the shopkeepers associations.
However, transport was plying normally on all routes.
A police spokesman said four alleged stone pelters, who had beaten and critically injured Bhat at Gojwara Chowk after he refused to close his shop on December 3, were arrested.
He suffered serious head injuries and was shifted to SKIMS for treatment, where he succumbed.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a number of other ministers, ruling National Conference (NC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders have strongly condemned the killing of Bhat.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC), Dukhtaran-e-Milat and other separatist organisations have also condemned the incident.
